When I approached my professor about potentially writing on Taiwan's most recent Sunflower Student Movement, he encouraged me to explore the movement through the lens of <岛屿天光> Island's Sunrise, the movement's theme song. He made told me, amid my whining, that art and politics "是分不开的", that art and politics "go hand in hand" to create the movement. I had never considered that before.
In doing research for this project, I am discovering how indeed, art does act as a powerful shaping force for this movement as it continues to unfold in these coming months.
I was first exposed to <岛屿天光> Island's Sunrise during class, when my professor showed us (what probably was very similar to) the YouTube link above. Normally I'm afraid to approach more recently created YouTube videos because of how complex they can be in their use of visuals, sound, and overall editing, but for this website, I'm finding that it is indeed EXACTLY those artistic qualities that help to capture the Sunflower Student Movement as a whole.
The Sunflower Student Movement began on March 18, 2014. Student activists "protested the passing of the Cross-Strait Service Trade Agreement by the ruling party Kuomintang at the legislature without clause-by-clause review"(9).

And like all good research assignments, I have a references page to give credit to all of the sources that I used to complete this website - and to my professor who has never stopped supporting me throughout the semester.
